To all my wonderful readers,
Every now and then a post comes through that simply touches your heart. You are left with no option but to help in whatever way you can. Living in South Africa, means that I can be of no assistance to these dogs in urgent need and I, therefore, appeal to you all, if you live anywhere in the USA, to hop over to Temporary Home Permanent Love and read the latest post “Sharing is Caring”.
This is Freckles – referred to as a goofball of love!
I tried to do a re-blog, pressed the button and……nothing! I like to think I’m not completely techno challenged but WordPress seems to think I am (must be their fault – certainly can’t be mine!)
Anyway, back to the point. These dogs are in a shelter in Crawfordville, FL (no idea where that is but hoping some of you out there do).
Temporary Home Permanent Love have said that they are more than happy to help with transport, no matter how far.
We thank all of you, in advance, for any help that can be mustered.

Oh I wish someone would give this wonderful doggy a furever home, look in this wonderful blue eyes and wow, his coat is such an eyecatcher… who wouldn’t love such a dog?
Exactly! It’s so hard, when you are so far away from animals in need. Hopefully someone closer will read the post and help these poor dogs out.

Thanks Ruby. People are certainly coming to the party in terms of reblogging this reblog and someone has already asked if a monetary donation might help. This blogging community is simply amazing! The word is spreading and hopefully something can happen before these poor dogs are “put down”. Everyone is being just phenomenal.

Morgan’s post lit that pesky light bulb in my head…that using social media to help our wonderful animals will start a chain of events that could eventually lead to adoptions! I was feeling quite helpless, being all the way down here in South Africa but I cannot tell you how wonderful this blogging community is being. My reblog is being reblogged by others and the news is spreading. Someone has already asked if a donation could help save them (have to wait for info back on that one) and, as you say, you just never know when the right person is going to read something and save one of these lovelies. I am quite overwhelmed with everyone’s care and love. All your positive thoughts count as well. Thank you.

Indeed. Maybe it was Karma that had me read the post and reblog it. It’s now being reblogged from my reblog and who knows, somewhere out there, the right person is going to find out about them. As an American the information we receive is deeply reflective of that particular news channel and also Hollywood. I would enjoy hearing your view of your country. Hi Nancy, I am not the slightest bit offended. In fact, I think it is a brilliant question. The trick now is to give you an idea (without writing an entire book) that is fair and real.
I couldn’t agree with you more, with regards to impressions being generated by a specific news channels views and, of course, what is news worthy. The problem with this is the fact that good news is very rarely “news worthy”.
I adore this country. There is so much good, so much diversity which brings with it a life, colour and sound all its own. Whenever I travel, the one thing I feel as I fly back over our country, is how much I had missed the colour, vibrancy and music of the country.
This is not to say that we don’t have our problems, which, of course, we do. There is a large degree of poverty, with which comes crime. There is corruption and, as it starts at the highest level of government, it tends to filter down through everything. Control over illegal immigrants is poor, to say the least and this leads to a large portion of the poverty and crime. As with any country or city, there are areas which are worse than others and, as a whole, I suppose we tend to be more vigilant and aware of safety. I dearly wish that our police force was better trained, less corrupt, paid better and more likely to look after the good of its’ people. As it stands, private security companies, providing household alarms and armed response have taken over that role to a large degree. I am trying my hardest here to be rational in terms of this answer and not candy coat the whole thing.
However, the country is beautiful, we have stunning scenery, fantastic weather and unbelievably friendly and open people. The diversity in landscape is as varied as the cultures living in it. In fact, many of the hollywood films have had vast portions shot here, due to this diversity and ease of moving from one type of scenery to another, all within a short space of time. To give you an example, the longest internal flight is only 2hrs (from Johannesburg to Cape Town). The scenery in both places is vastly different. We have deserts, lush green tropical environments, mountains, rivers and everything in between.
I, myself, live in Johannesburg which would probably equate to the New York type pace of life (maybe not quite as much but certainly pretty close). It is a strange city, in that it is one of the only very large cities built around no natural water source. It has, however, become known as the largest man made forest in the world. When I take Litchi for walks in the park a few minutes from me and get a clear view across the rolling hills, it is green and lush and covered in trees. Quite remarkable for a very large city. It sprung up due to gold mining. It is a hot pot of cultures and people tend to be very open to this. We love meeting people from other countries and learning about their lives. In general, I think you would find the average South African to be very warm, inviting and friendly. We love outdoor life and a lot of socialising happens at peoples homes, with a braai (or BBQ to you) being one of the favourite ways to entertain. Our weather certainly lends itself to this. We are a social people and would not think twice about asking an international visitor to pop in for a braai. We’d probably invite all our friends as well, just to show the visitor a good time and because we love meeting new people.
We also, of course, have the most spectacular bush and wild life that is so unique to our continent. That is where my heart sings. I adore the bush. We also have some of the most spectacular beaches, so there’s pretty much something for everyone here. I, personally, love this country and would dearly like to live the rest of my life here.
I hope I have been able to give you some brief insight into this country. Please feel free to ask whatever questions you would care to. I love that you are interested.

Thanks Sammy, that’s exactly what is needed – sharing the word in the hope that someone, somewhere, can help these poor animals before it’s too late. It really is heartbreaking and I usually only deal with the No-Kill shelters but these animals are in urgent need. I simply couldn’t ignore it.

Here I am, all the way down south, unable (so I thought) to help but we truly have a wonderful bunch here. Oh, by the way, I met up with a wonderful organisation here in South Africa yesterday (there premises are in a city very close to mine so I will be going to visit them soon), who, together with all other types of animals, have donkeys they have rescued. I immediately thought of you. The place sounds fantastic, no animal is caged and they take in animals that were on death row elsewhere. I am looking forward to visiting them and especially their donkeys. I will be thinking of you whilst I’m there.
