Every One Counts!

Moving on to better news.  Firstly, I must say a huge big THANK YOU to all of my new found blogging friends, whose encouragement and good wishes for Chocy were astounding.  It is incredible to see such support.  We have been awarded two new, fabulous awards and are feeling quite immaturely excited.

Blog On Fire award

Now for the difficult part.  I have to list 8 unusual things about myself!?!?!  Alright, I’m thinking, give me a break here…..wait…..it’s coming……whew, here we go:

  1. I used to be so shy I could barely talk to people (except for unknown neighbours).  Now I post my life out on the internet – weird!
  2. My folks lost me at age 7, on a trip to London to visit relatives, because I decided a hedgehog was far more interesting than people, followed it through the hedge to the neighbours, then found a cat and decided to visit people unknown.  Well, who could blame me, the room of relatives all had purple hair – how’s a 7 year old supposed to cope with that!
  3. I have an unrequited desire to drive a truck – one of those really big, long haul horse and trailer types.  I love trucks!
  4. Back to the “shy” thing – in junior school, a chap ran over my foot with his car.  I was so mortified by the attention that I denied the whole thing.  I actually helped the driver look for what he might have driven over – couldn’t put my foot on the ground for months thereafter – silly child.
  5. I would love mornings, if only they would come a little bit later in the day.
  6. When he’s not with me, my husband phones me about 5 times a day.  I just told him to get off the phone so I could finish this post.  Bad me! Bad, bad, bad.
  7. I’m a girl but I hate shopping.  Really, I hate it!  My husband loves it – where’s the sense?
  8. I recently found out that I’m nuts.

Diverting slightly, the kindness shown by everyone reminds me of the numerous times I am asked how I can cope with working in the animal rescue field.  My answer is always the same.  Although it is true that you get to see the worst side of human nature and the cruelty that people can bestow upon what they perceive to be weaker than themselves (animals, children, women, etc), I also get to see the absolutely BEST side of human nature -the people who will give of their time, emotion, support and money unconditionally.  Those people who work tirelessly for the good of animals in need, without a thought for their own gain.  To me, it is worth the world.  It is one of the most uplifting experiences anyone could hope for.

For my part, I will continue to work tirelessly assisting the shelters and attempting to grow the support for this blog, so as to raise the necessary awareness and funding for the shelters who will, if need be, keep animals for life.  The shelters not only keep the animals alive, but provide them with a life.  As an example, although Chocy is back at the shelter, she is not simply confined to a kennel.  She is loved.  She is taken for a walk, off the property, every day.  She has bonded with both the owners and staff of the organisation.  She is happy, albeit not in her ideal “forever” home.

Sisterhood of the World Bloggers award

Alright then, having rambled on quite enough, it is time to get back to the reason for this blog – finally!  In the midst of the chaos, yet another Award was bestowed upon us.  This is just outstanding and I would like each of the award presenters to know just how much this means.  Each one counts.  Each one assists in creating the awareness for which I am working.  So, to One Spoiled Cat and Fluffy Popcorn, I thank you for the Blog on Fire Award.  It is really beautiful and I am ecstatic!  To Mollie & Alfie, thank you so much for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award.  This too, is gorgeous and we are overjoyed to have it.  Thank you for your generosity and help.  You are all fabulous!

Choosing people to whom these blogs should be passed is the really difficult part.  I have chosen to pass it on to those who’s support was so appreciated through the Chocy ordeal (I have not included those to whom I have already passed on awards but please believe me, it does not mean that I do not believe you deserve it!  I simply thought I’d send them to those I have not included before):

To the following blogs, please accept either, or both, of the awards you would like:

Europa’s IceWolf – A fantastic, mystical site, with real life questions – very different and well worth a view.

Granbee – A fabulous Mother, Grandmother, Dog Trainer and writer, finally returning to her roots in writing.

Dakota’s Den – Great stories of the daily “goings on” of a dog named Dakota (her Mom needs some good tidings today, so hop over and say “Hi”).

Easy Weimaraner  – Superb stories from Easyrider, the Weimeraner and proud owner of two human slaves.

Serenity Spell – A wonderful trip through nature, with stunning photographs and an inherent belief in the good of human nature.

We Three Doxies – Brilliant photographs and stories of the lives of these “untrainable” Dachshund’s

2 Brown Dawgs – The escapades and fantastic photographs of 2 Chesapeake Bay Retrievers

I love Schnauzers – A brilliant foster parent for the Schnauzer Rescue Group, whose life “went to the dogs” on the arrival of foster dog Dieta.

Congrats! And thanks for turning me on to some new blogs to add to my reader!

  9. Congrats on the awards, your blog is off to a great start.

I had missed the post on Choucy so I just read it to catch up. Sorry it did not work out but she will find the right home. Don’t feel discouraged, there are quiet homes to be found. She will find the perfect home.

    • Thanks so much. Don’t worry, I’m still trying to play catch up on everyone else’s blogs. Beginning to wonder if I’ll ever get to all of them. Don’t worry about Chocy, she is actually very happy at the shelter and we will definitely find her the perfect home – it is just going to take a little longer than we had hoped.

  10. Congratulations on your awards! It was nice to hear a bit more about you.

  11. Congratulations on your well deserved awards. I enjoyed your answers especially about the nuts thing, lol, but who isn’t 😀

  12. Why thank you! I am deeply wolfishly honoured that you should have considered my blog worthy I’m actually very hopeless with awards as I can never meet the conditions lol like I’d have to pass a pass-on type award to ALL my followers no matter what the rules so I’d break them straight away!! But it’s a lovely thought and very much appreciated thank you 🙂

Congratulations too on your well deserved rewards! You are most definitely a very worthy recipient and your list of unusual things about yourself was great 🙂 Thank you once again for your thoughtfulness, and also for your kind words here about my blog. That was very sweet of you even more so when I am such a new arrival on yours… big Icewolfie hug for you 🙂

    • It was such a pleasure. I know the awards can be time consuming and I really don’t mind if you don’t do anything with yours, other than to know that you were thought of and hopefully get a few more readers. Thanks for all your great comments and I love wolf hugs.

  13. Chancy and Mumsy

Congratulations!! You deserve those awards and more we love your blog. Hugs and nose kisses

  14. All we animal lovers are nuts! Hooray for such nutiness!

  15. Congratulations on two lovely awards! I am always thrilled when I blog I admire receives recognition.

  16. Congratulations on your awards, very well deserved!!

I admire people who are right in the thick of rescue, your love and devotion to finding forever homes for these animals is wonderful. I have friends who do Chesapeake rescue and although I am not in a position right at this moment to take in a rescue I do try to help when and where I can even if it is to take a ride with my friend to pick up a dog.

    God Bless you!!

    • Thank you so much. You’d be surprised how much each little gesture helps. Just taking that ride with your friend to collect a dog can mean more than you might imagine.

I know what you mean in terms of wanting to take in rescues and not being able to though. I am not supposed to have animals where I live and yet I have 1 dog and 3 cats (all rescues). I am now full up. So now I turn my attention to trying to put the right people and animals together, support the Pro-Life shelters and blog my heart out

Thank you for your support – it is greatly appreciated.

  17. Congratulations on your awards. I have added you to my Blogger Buddies page so I can pop by when there is a new post and so other like minded bloggers can see you too. Hope that is OK. I find following by email not easy as they get lost in all the other stuff. If you want to remove it or change the picture just pop by and let me know.
    Best wishes Molly

    • Thank you so much, that is just fantastic. I am delighted to be added to your Blogger Buddies page – what a treat. I agree on the emails getting lost. Terrible how work keeps getting in the way of the emails you actually want to read!

  18. Hiya! Savannah here! Just popped over from Jet’s blog (actually Mom was talking to Miss Lori and she told us to come on over). So we are signed up to follow you via email. Great blog! we looked around and read some stuff at the start up. You are well on your way to going ‘viral’ as planned!! Concatulations!! I am not sure if you have your own animals or not, but will read more later to find out. Paw pats, Savannah

    • Thanks Savannah, I really enjoy your blog as well! I do have animals – 1 dog and 3 cats, all in a place that I am not supposedly allowed animals!!! The complex appears to have forgiven me as they all enjoy their company. It is probably just as well that I don’t have a large property, otherwise I would be somewhat overrun by animals (would definitely be named the “mad old cat lady”). Thanks so much for the follow – each one helps to get the awareness out there.

  19. You recently found out you were nuts? Who told you!! Lovely blog and I very much support your animal-helping activities!

  20. That is wonderful! Congrats on all your awards!! 🙂

  21. I am honored to nominate you for the One Lovely Blog Award! Please pick-up your award at http://sharechair.wordpress.com/. Copy and Paste the Award to your blog and follow the rules of acceptance. I am very aware that some people do not wish to participate in Awards, and I completely respect that… no strings! But in any case, Congratulations, you have a Lovely Blog 🙂 Maybe you can tag this one on to your others…. 🙂

  22. Congratulations on your much-deserved awards! You are doing amazing work to raise awareness for pet adoption! I am very interested to learn more about shelters that keep animals for life…that is so wonderful!

  23. Nice nice nice post. How glad I am we met.
